Baked Apples

Apple’s are plentiful year round and remain affordable throughout winter. Here is our recipe for baked apples, a delicious warm dessert sure to please this season.



INGREDIENTS
2 apples
2 tablespoons brown sugar
½ teaspoon of cinnamon
2/3 cups of sultanas (approx, depending on apple size)
2 x knobs of butter
1 cup of boiling water

METHOD
Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celsius
Core and scoop out the flesh (or pulp) 2 x apples leaving the bottom inch or so intact. Be careful as you core the apple.
Mix together 2 tablespoons of butter, cinnamon and sultanas and stuff in to the cored apple
Put a knob of butter on to the top of the apples
Put apples in to a small baking tin (we used a loaf tin)
Pour the boiling water in to the tin
Put the tin with the apples and water in the oven and bake for 40 mins until the apples are cooked (but not mushy / crumbly)
Once cooked, leave to cool slightly and serve on their own or with a scoop of French vanilla ice cream

TIPS
Use large apples
Red apples are best – but try if you’re a granny smith apple fan try these and let us know how it goes!
You could try and add nuts such as almonds or pecans
If you don’t have French vanilla ice cream you could serve with vanilla ice cream or cream
