About the author and illustrator:
June Pitman-Hayesis a creative writer, singer-songwriter, lyricist and poet. Raised largely by her maternal Māori grandmother in the tiny settlement of Tamaterau in the Whangarei Heads area, June is one of Aotearoa’s best-known jazz singers, having performed at many events and festivals throughout the country.
In addition to her own books, Tawhirimatea and Kia Ora, You Can Be a Kiwi Too, June recently recorded the music to Joy Cowley’s Hush: A Kiwi Lullabyas well. She currently lives and works in Kerikeri, Northland.
Minky Stapletonis a multi-faceted illustrator with a range of styles. Originally from South Africa, she now resides with her husband and two sons in Auckland, NZ, where she balances a number of illustration projects with running classes for kids on how to design scary monsters.
Minky has illustrated the highly acclaimed Kia Ora, You Can Be a Kiwi Too, the perfect match for a book about immigrants to New Zealand, as well as the recently published Things in the Sea Are Touching Me!
