Since Covid-19 restrictions began on the 25th March, the NZSO has been unable to perform live but that hasn’t stopped them from pivoting and presenting free online performances to New Zealand. This week they are bringing two performances to kiwis with Sei Solo 3 on the 13th May and the NZSO’s Ryman Healthcare Presents Discovering Beethoven series on the 17th May.
This Wednesday, Sei Solo 3 will feature NZSO Violaist Nicholas Hancox who will perform two movements from Bach’s Suite No. 5 as a part of a six-part series performed by the NZSO’s string players with each playing their favourite movements from Bach’s compositions and sharing their thoughts on the composers works.
To ensure safety is adhered to, each performance is filmed by the string player in their own home and curated by NZSO Guest Assistant Concertmaster Jessica Oddie.
To continue the celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth this year comes the NZSO’s Ryman Healthcare Presents Discovering Beethoven series with each performance filmed at home and curated by NZSO Concermaster Vesa-Matti Leppänen.
Both the Sei Solo 3 and Ryman Healthcare Presents Discovering Beethoven are supported by NZSO project partner RNZ Concert and can be viewed HERE.
