Today is International Workers Day which is celebrated across the world on May 1st. Having said that, in New Zealand the day is celebrated on the 4th Monday of October and is called Labour Day. The first was celebrated almost 130 years ago on 28th October 1890.
NZ Politician Samuel Parnell is credited with implementing the 8 hour work day here in New Zealand. Samuel Parnell Road in Wellington was named after Parnell in 1999.
